Taking the Leap

I’ve been drooling over stories for years that other people have written about quitting their job and taking the leap of doing or starting their own thing. It’s finally my turn!

The logical and spreadsheet planner side of me is excited AND scared to death at the same time.

The timing is not perfect. It never will be.

I have custody of three grandchildren — age 3, 6, and almost 9 — and I’ve come to the conclusion that there will not EVER be a perfect time to take a chance. On this endeavor, or anything else.

I am 46 years old and have worked in IT for the majority of my career. I work in the cybersecurity industry for a school district and just completed my Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance about two weeks ago.

To say I am tired is an understatement.

About 3 weeks ago I drove about six hours to where my dad was in the hospital and stayed for a few days. He’d been sick since the first week of January and was in ICU for about 4 months before finally going to rehab. After a couple of months in rehab he finally went home and sadly, didn’t get better.

A friend of mine brought her SUV to the town where he was in the hospital. She had padded the whole back of it with blankets and pillows, and as the nurse helped us load dad into the back we all…
